He was powerful, older and my boss, a lethal combination. Job satisfaction has taken on a whole new meaning.
When I lied on my resume, I didn’t expect it to matter. I mean any child would love me; I was born to be a nanny. I applied for a position working for a woman, or so I thought. But Julian Masters is definitely all man…the kind you dream of licking chocolate from.
The first day was bad. The kids were the spawn of the devil and I spied through a window and caught him doing something obscene…. and equally fascinating.
The second day was worse, he caught me snooping in his bathroom cabinet in my skimpy pyjamas and all hell broke loose.
On the third day, I ran over him in a golf cart.
And by day four I had decided that I wanted that chocolate…all of it. Melted….on me.
But intelligent, widowed Judges don’t fall for ditzy nannies. Or do they?
While I've been reading a few books, it has taken me some time before I've been able to get into the story. Not because the story wasn't great but it's been a bit of a book funk. That is until I read this. I instantly started devouring it! Before I realised it, I was already half way through when I promised myself I would only read a few pages to start off. I absolutely loved it! Mr. Masters. A hot, suited dominant man... where do I sign up? ;)
The first interactions between Brielle and Mr. Masters are certainly memorable. Everything that could go wrong, seems to go wrong for Brielle. You feel bad for her and yet you love the awkward situations. There were times where I did disagree with the actions of the characters. Sometimes, despite his hotness, I wanted to slap Mr. Masters for his behaviour. At times, he acted like a spoiled brat. Yes, his past experiences coloured his behaviour but that certainly doesn't excuse it. Similarly with Brielle, sometimes I found her too forgiving. Willing to sacrifice her desires simply to stay with Mr. Masters. Things might be different if I were in that situation and maybe I'd act differently. But I suppose everyone has their own take on how they would react and that's what makes reading books so exciting. You get to view situations from different perspectives which opens your mind to new ways of thinking. Mr. Masters does redeem himself in my eyes and the ending was lovely.
Emerson, Spencer and Sebastian are fantastic characters. They are hilarious and loyal friends. Each of them are supportive of the protagonists and want the best for them. I'd love to read more about them. This was an enjoyable story which hooked me in from the very first page. The characters, the plot, the steam... all really great and fantastic. The story gets intense, not only when the chemistry gets heated between Brielle and Julian but when truths are revealed. Ghosts haunt the Masters' household and you wonder if the two of them can get past these issues. Brielle is exactly what Julian needs even if he doesn't realise it at first. Sometimes what you need isn't what you wanted. Sometimes you need something completely different to realise what you were missing out on. Emotive and poignant is one way I would describe TL Swan's writing. She tugs at your heartstrings while exploring some difficult and current issues faced by people these days. She does it with sensitivity and grace. This would have to be one of my favourite reads for the year.
