Violet has magical talent. She can levitate, walk through glass, and be in two places at one time. What happens when Violet discovers true magic in the arms of a new man?
Luke Kemble enjoys the luxury of having Violet, all of her magic and all of her beauty, all to himself. What happens to Luke's illusion of reality when he and the love of his life are threatened by another man, a dangerous one that holds grudges and anger?
Carter Borden never fully recovered from the heartbreak of his ex-wife leaving him. What happens to a damaged man who begins to believe in magic once again?
Follow two men -- Luke and Carter -- as they learn the one truth about Violet's magic (that it's an only an illusion) and the one truth about her love (that it's not).
I definitely think this quote from the movie, Now You See You, is completely relevant and you’ll see why :)
First off, the cover!!! I heart it! Yes, I love a good cover ;) But look at it! It’s gorgeous! When I first started reading, I didn’t realise that there would be magic in involved! I should have known however, it didn’t click right away but I was so stoked! I love magic! So already Mr. Parker had me sold on his book. I became fixated by the story and was like this:
So as I mentioned, there are two leading men. One is a recent divorcee and the other, a mastermind in illusion. And in the middle of them is a woman. Violet. It seems that she has taken an interest in Carter despite Luke being her partner. To be honest, I did not take an immediate liking to Violet. I felt that she was using Carter and betraying Luke. I was clearly on the male side of things rather than Violet. But that doesn’t mean she was a bad person. I just couldn’t figure out her angle and I REALLLY wanted to know what she was doing! :) I think Luke described her perfectly when he called her a “spoiled bitch” :P My feelings exactly! But I absolutely loved her when she said this:
“Seriously, Carter. If you like me, don’t be shy. Because girls don’t chase boys. Ever. Especially not the magical girls, because those girls can have boys dropping out the sky.”
*snaps fingers* you tell him sister! ;)
I kept tossing up between Luke and Carter and couldn’t decide which I loved more. Each man had something special. But my heart ached for both men because it felt like Violet was only giving them pieces of herself. And Carter had so many questions! Her hot and cold mood swings, and the secrets she kept. So much he didn’t understand! And there was always this danger, lurking, just bubbling under the surface…
But fret not, there are some hot scenes too! The hotness under the stage! *fans self* that was a brilliant scene! There are some gorgeous quotes in the story too. Here are two of my favourites:
“When the last thing you see at night is your soul mate’s smile and the first thing you find when you wake up is his eyes, you’d sacrifice anything.”
…
“I can’t make love magically appear. Neither can you. It’s probably the one and only thing in life that’s not an illusion.”
And then the truth was finally revealed. I went through these:
Mr. Parker has done a fantastic job with this story. Suspense, drama, action, mystery, romance and, of course, steamy scenes ;) If by chance, Mr. Parker happens to read this review, he might enjoy this quote and where it comes from: “The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything.” I won’t say where it’s from because I don’t want to reveal too much but I’m sure Mr. Parker has seen this film ;) This story is truly beautiful, enchanting and, dare I say it, magical. I recommend you to read it if you haven’t already. Mr. Parker really does make us believe in magic!
About the Author . . .
As the author of the best-selling mystery romance, Surviving Goodbye, Morgan Parker has written several novels under this pen name. In 2012 and 2013, when he self-published Textual Encounters and Textual Encounters: 2, respectively, he was absolutely floored that anyone would want to read his stories. So he wrote non friction, an unconventional love story. That love story earned Mr. Parker a tremendous amount of attention and at the insistence of his readers, he followed it with Hope (a novella) and Sick Day. All three of those stories have spent time on Amazon best-seller lists. Currently, he is preparing Violets & Violence for publication in late-2014.
When not writing, Morgan likes to spend time gathering writing material from his two young children, reading and napping where he discovered the Type II Sleep State, which is the topic for his 2015 release, Anna Graham.
Morgan interacts regularly with his readers and friends on Facebook and Twitter.
