With their dream within grasp, Johnny and Lola make an offer on Hey Joe--only to discover that a million dollars doesn't go as far as they'd thought. As the price of the bar rises and expenses pile up, Lola begins to question what she really wants.
Lola knows she can solve their problems with one phone call, but she may risk going too far to have it all. Because she's not dealing with just anyone--she's dealing with a master. For Beau Olivier, there's no such thing as too far. There is only conquest. There is only victory.
Beau and Lola already had their night together, but it wasn't enough. They need more. And the more they need. The more they have to lose.
So last time, we left poor Lola standing at the door of her house after Beau dropped her off. The two of them spent one hell of a night together. You can tell that both Lola and Johnny do their best to forget the night and how they came to have their money. Despite having a million dollars, Lola is concerned that it isn't enough and she feels that Johnny isn't taking his new responsibilities seriously. And then Beau keeps his offer open for a second night. Now, let's be honest... who could resist? ;)
Beau has a weakness for a challenge and Lola, well, her weakness is Beau. He has the ability to lower her defences and sneak a knife in whenever he humiliates her. Lola knows that she allows him to do that by letting him get so close. But when he says such beautiful things, it would be hard not to let your defences drop.
“That’s what you’re worth.” He walked inside and turned to look at her. “Not a dollar amount. All those nights for these two nights with you.”
..............
“Ironically,” he said, “for a moment just now at the table, I thought I would give it all up for you. My kingdom for my queen.”
Now, I challenge you to resist those statements :P Lola knows that a part of her already loves him but realises that she must keep that truth to herself. If she admits it, it will change everything forever. And going back to Johnny will not be the same. Don't worry, there are plenty of steamy moments in the book too ;)
“You think even the devil would have you?”
“He already does. He’s got me.”
“And you have me,” Lola said. “You’re my devil.”
He thrust inside her all at once. She made a noise between a yelp and a moan as whiskey sloshed onto her back. Beau removed the glass and lapped up the liquid, his tongue slick and slippery, leaving goose bumps along her spine. “Whiskey and Lola,” he said against her skin. “My new favourite flavor.”
I didn't think that Jessica could top the hotness of the last book but damn! She did it! I mean that previous one was hot! And then Beau claims a part of Lola that not even Johnny did!
"Johnny’s tried, and I’ve told him no every time. He’s begged me, Beau. You don’t understand what this means.”
He put an elbow by her head and close his body over her back. “Yes, I do,” he said into her hair, “and it only makes me want it more.”
Woah, mama! Beau has completely claimed Lola and she knows it isn't just about sex. There's something more. Beau wants more and more of her. To get to know her as a person. You can't help but feel her pain as she is torn between two men, a man she loves and a man she could love. You realise that life is not black and white but shades of grey and that each one of them (Beau, Lola, Johnny) have played a part in this arrangement.
Just as their night wraps up, an incident occurs! Lola is afraid that she almost lost Beau and confirms that it was love that caused her to risk her life. She admits to Beau her love and asks him to tell her what to do. Just as they start planning on their future... Lola discovers a painful truth. She confronts Beau and everything unravels. My face when I learnt the truth:
I said that Night Fever was great but Night Call… I don’t know how she’s done it but Jessica has weaved her magic and delivered exactly what her tagline promises. More. She has taken it up a level and made everything more hotter, more intense, more emotional. More of everything! Despite feeling devastated by the ending, my first thought after the last page was next book please! :) Jessica has done a phenomenal job with this series. I can't wait to see what Lola does. After all, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... I've always wanted to use that line ;)
