The spotlight lands on Samantha Brooks. Years of practice build to the opening night of a global tour. She plays her heart out, but there are darker forces underneath the stage.
There are eyes watching from the wings.
Liam North fights to keep her safe with every weapon he owns. She’s his greatest pride—and his greatest weakness. The danger comes from somewhere no one expected. Betrayal threatens to destroy everything he’s built. His business. His family. His life.
When the curtain falls, only one of them will be left standing.
While Samantha begins to become a woman and stand up for herself, in many ways, she is still a young, sheltered naïve girl. But I think she is learning and growing more and more each day. Liam is trying to place distance between himself and Samantha but it isn’t working as well as he hoped. He is determined to keep her safe even if that means risking his own life. Josh shows some interesting sides to himself in this story. He riles up his brother in order to get a reaction for him and force his hand. But he is the one who recognises more than anyone the power Samantha has over Liam.
Dark shadows are lurking and no on can be completely trusted. More secrets are revealed from the past and the reader learns more about Liam’s tragic past. I think these words get a heartstring the most: “That’s what life is about,” he says, his eyes darkening to emerald. “Trying to find a moment of happiness in the face of overwhelming human suffering.” It’s like a kick in the gut because even though Liam said this, I don’t think he truly believes he deserves happiness and that’s heartbreaking.
