When Bleu Resorts owner, Jada Kole decided it would be a good idea to keep a secret from her husband, it never once occurred to her that he might have an even more stunning secret than hers.
The last year of Jonathan Kole’s life has been marred by complications, pressure and is beyond stressful both at his law firm and at home. Jada being overseas for an extended period doesn’t make things any easier to deal with.
But secrets have a way of getting out. Add a sultry blonde and a child to the mix and Jada and Jonathan’s happily married life quickly turns into a very dark shade of bleu. As things fall apart, it turns from bad to worse when one of them ends up on the wrong side of the law and something ominous enters their lives.
With Jada and Jonathan battling problems inside their marriage and things disintegrating in every direction on the outside, will San Francisco’s biggest power couple be able to get their lives in order? Or will it bring about the demise of their world and their child’s?
Even though this book is a novella, the story delivers drama, suspense, heartache and love. So much love. There are some incredibly moving moments. Moments where your heart splinters and bleeds. You are sucker punched from the very first sentence.
The story returns to our favourite couple Jada and Jonathan Kole, 13 years after the events of Love, Lies and the D.A. Not everything is quite as it should be. Jada is hiding something from her family but then again so is Jonathan.. Communication is everything. While we think that keeping things from our loved ones is protecting them, in fact it does the opposite. Secrets can hurt more than the truth. And this is something Jada and Jonathan discover. While trying to spare the other the burden of their problems, they have created suspicion and unease in their marriage. There were times when I wanted to slap them both for their decisions but I empathised with them. I understood what they were trying to do even though it didn't quite work the way they had hoped.
There are some sweet and tender moments especially when Jordan is present. He is such an adorable child. A favorite of mine is a father and son moment between Jonathan and Jordan:
I ruffle my fingers through the curly locks of his hair. "Come on... who's the best lawyer you know in San Francisco?"
"You-Jonathan Kole."
"That's right," I lean over and take him in my arms.
The story shows us that it is okay to be vulnerable, to be weak, to have insecurities, and to ask for help. For we are stronger when we are together. Alone, the weight of the world can crush us. But with others, they can help us shoulder the burden and we can come out stronger and better than before.
Ms. Rohman creates incredible tales which touch on sensitive and relevant issues that affect people everyday. She tackles these issues with such poise and grace so that the reader is left with hope and love by the end of the tale.
